FEBRUARY 2025

The Great Barrington Land Conservancy (GBLC), by virtue of doing what we do, has no lack of projects that require attention. One such project was the replacement of the bog boards at the Pfeiffer Arboretum.

Through the generosity of our donors, GBLC was fortunate enough to once again hire the team from Greenagers to replace the 184 lineal feet of bog boards that lead down to the observatory overlooking Long Pond. The project spanned a few days in late January of 2025 and the hearty crew members braved the cold temperatures without as much as a whimper. When asked about the frigid temperatures making the project even more difficult, Greenagers Deputy Director Elia Del Molino responded with a gleam in his eye: “hard is what we do.”

The old planks, in varying degrees of degradation, were removed and hauled off site and replaced with new locust planks. The highly rot resistant locust planks were custom sawn by the Greenagers crew with logs sourced by Konkapot Tree and Timber and should last for years and years. The new planks were left with live edges to give the user a more pleasing, organic feeling as it meanders through the woods.

The GBLC would like to thank everyone at Greenagers for their participation in this wonderful upgrade to the Pfeiffer Arboretum and encourage the community to visit and see the new and improved bog board installation for themselves.
