GBLC Trails Update

The GBLC team is working hard to make our special places and trails available during these challenging times. We ask you to please observe our COVID-19 Trail Rules below and enjoy the trails at the Lake Mansfield Conservation Forest and Pfeiffer Arboretum on Long Pond Road. Remember to enjoy these places safely.

Unfortunately, the Housatonic River Walk trail is too narrow to provide for the physical distancing required to combat COVID-19. The River Walk trail and Du Bois River Garden Park will remain closed at this time until the Massachusetts Department of Public Health Advisory is lifted. We are saddened to temporarily prevent this access to the trail, but feel it is essential at this time to protect public health. While River Walk is closed, Greenagers staff will continue to work on trail maintenance and habitat restoration.

Your support of GBLC over the years has made these places possible. Thanks to you, GBLC has the funds to carry on with our normal operations this spring and will continue to protect open spaces within Great Barrington for ecological, recreational, agricultural, and scenic purposes. Sections of the new Riverfront Trail, which will connect visitors to a long-inaccessible section of the Housatonic River, were built last fall and the second phase of trail construction will begin later this spring.

Stay safe,

Janice Kabel, President, on behalf of the entire GBLC Board.
