The family of Donald Goranson reached out to GBLC to honor him with a memorial tree at Lake Mansfield. They suggested that the gift be used to replace a dying tree in the recently improved beach area.
On September 22nd a Nyssa sylvatica (black tupelo) tree was planted and mulched. This tree was selected for its glossy scarlet fall color as well as many slender, nearly horizontal branches, which will make it a perfect shade tree for summer visitors.

Don Goranson served on the Great Barrington Planning Board from 1920 – 1988 and then again from 1994 – 2011. Under his leadership, the Town developed three master plans and several important revisions to its planning and development rules and regulations. Don also served as the planning board representative to the Lake Mansfield Improvement Task force in its beginning years.
