GBLC volunteers are out for an early start to continue work on replanting the buffer zone at Lake Mansfield At this time of year, sustainable harvested willows and dogwood cuttings can be inserted into moist soils. The live stakes will push out roots and then branches. Each new shrub will help to strengthen the shoreline and provide excellent habitat for native insects and birds. The plant species selected can event flourish with "wet feet" The early spring timing was also perfect for checking on trees planted last fall. Some root balls had risen a bit due to frost. Volunteers carefully settled the trees back into places. In upcoming days, volunteer days we will be mulching in each tree to help support their next stages of growth.
