Lake Mansfield Needs Your Support

Start Date

We urge you to attend an important meeting about the future of Lake Mansfield this Wednesday, October 23, 6:30pm at the Great Barrington Town Hall. The Great Barrington Conservation Commission will review the town's plan to add more pavement to Lake Mansfield Road.

In June, our selectboard approved the Lake Mansfield Improvement Task Force recommendation to close the section of road from the boat launch to the beach area to vehicles. The plan also provides a recreational trail as a future phase. This decision allows for the seeking of grant funding for design and installation. The process will take 2-3 years.

However, since then, the selectboard has asked the Task Force its views on repaving the road for the interim period. The Task Force strongly recommended no further paving and closing the road. Despite this, the selectboard voted to repave the road with a thick layer of asphalt and to change road use to one way.

Now however, the town’s Conservation Commission has indicated they must review the work. Your attendance at this meeting is important. Please come to support this vital step of environmental review of all work in this degraded and sensitive habitat area.
