HEARTFLOW Winter Solstice: Honoring the Housatonic River

Start Date
End Date

HEARTFLOW Winter Solstice is a community celebration to honor the Housatonic River and waters of the world on Saturday, December 21st.

When: Saturday, December 21, 1-3pm.

Where: Sheffield Yoga Studio, 1224 North Main St., Sheffield (on Route 7, just 2.9 miles south of Guido’s in Great Barrington).

Who: Families and people of all ages are invited to participate in this celebration hosted by Rights of Nature–Berkshires.

Last June, on one of longest days of the year, some 60 participants walked bridge-to-bridge along the Housatonic River Walk in the heart of Great Barrington, stopping for song, music, poetry, drumming, flag-making, and ceremony— all expressions of respect and gratitude to the river. HEARTFLOW was a multi-dimensional symphony of activities designed to celebrate, contemplate and honor the past, present and future of the Housatonic River in South County.

Now, in this time of turning from darkness to light, we go indoors to express and foster acknowledgment, respect, and care for the Housatonic River while creating much-needed community at this time in our lives. Join us for HEARTFLOW Winter Solstice!

Organized and hosted by Rights of Nature–Berkshires, HEARTFLOW Winter Solstice will feature musicians and local community speakers and artists. Feel free to bring an instrument, a poem or personal water narrative to share if you are so inclined, plus thoughts of gratitude to the Housatonic River for decorating prayer flags.

Note: This is a free event. Please dress appropriately for possible short procession outside. Sorry, no pets.
